The School of Athens is a famous Renaissance fresco painted by Raphael around 1511. It brings together many of the greatest thinkers of classical antiquity in a grand imaginary meeting. At the very center are Plato (pointing upward, symbolizing ideal forms) and Aristotle (gesturing outward, emphasizing practical knowledge). Around them you can spot other famous figures such as Socrates, Pythagoras, Euclid, Ptolemy, Zoroaster, Diogenes, and Heraclitus. Each represents a different branch of philosophy, mathematics, or science, turning the whole fresco into a celebration of human thought.
